6 Foods to Keep You Young

Olive Oil

Four decades ago, researchers from the Seven Countries Study concluded that the monounsaturated fats in olive oil were largely responsible for the low rates of heart disease and cancer on the Greek island of Crete. Now we know that olive oil also contains polyphenols, powerful antioxidants that may help prevent age-related diseases.

Yogurt

In the 1970s, Soviet Georgia was rumored to have more centenarians per capita than any other country. Reports at the time claimed that the secret of their long lives was yogurt, a food ubiquitous in their diets. While the age-defying powers of yogurt never have been proved directly, yogurt is rich in calcium, which helps stave off osteoporosis and contains 'good bacteria' that help maintain gut health and diminish the incidence of age-related intestinal illness.

Fish

Thirty years ago, researchers began to study why the native Inuits of Alaska were remarkably free of heart disease. The reason, scientists now think, is the extraordinary amount of fish they consume. Fish is an abundant source of omega-3 fats, which help prevent cholesterol buildup in arteries and protect against abnormal heart rhythms.

Chocolate

The Kuna people of the San Blas islands, off the coast of Panama, have a rate of heart disease that is nine times less than that of mainland Panamanians. The reason? The Kuna drink plenty of a beverage made with generous proportions of cocoa, which is unusually rich in flavanols that help preserve the healthy function of blood vessels. Maintaining youthful blood vessels lowers risk of high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, kidney disease and dementia.

Nuts

Studies of Seventh-Day Adventists (a religious denomination that emphasizes healthy living and a vegetarian diet) show that those who eat nuts gain, on average, an extra two and a half years. Nuts are rich sources of unsaturated fats, so they offer benefits similar to those associated with olive oil. They're also concentrated sources of vitamins, minerals and other phytochemicals, including antioxidants.

Blueberries

In a landmark study published in 1999, researchers at Tufts University's Jean Mayer Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging fed rats blueberry extract for a period of time that in 'rat lives' is equivalent to 10 human years. These rats outperformed rats fed regular chow on tests of balance and coordination when they reached old age. Compounds in blueberries (and other berries) mitigate inflammation and oxidative damage, which are associated with age-related deficits in memory and motor function.

Sleep Paralysis/Kena Tindih...

Janganlah kite ni selalu tuduh hantu le, jin le....tahyul semua tu. Fenomena kene tindih...kepercayaan dan kebenaran...
just to share... aku baca segmen pengalaman menyeramkan dalam book and readings, byk sgt orang dok citer pasal pengalaman kena tindih ni....... betul ker kena tindih disebabkan gangguan makhluk seperti jin atau hantu?

Orang ramai describe kena tindih seperti takleh gerakkan seluruh badan, hujung jari, terasa berat kat dada...nampak mender2 pelik2 (hantu, makhluk hitam dan sebagainyer) ....

kalau aku tanya sini, mesti ramai jawab pernah kena....aku pun jujur pernah ade pengalaman kena 'tindih' ni masa skolah menengah dulu...aderla dalam 3-4 kali jugak....masa tu aku sedar...boleh bukak mata separuh..... . aku tau aku sedar...tapi takleh gerak...kadang2 geram, sbb takleh gerak.....pastu 5 minit baru leh gerak.....aku dulu pun takut...mmg ingat kena hempap dah...lps boleh gerak tu seram sejuk jer... tapi, setelah aku masuk U belajar pasal tubuh badan manusia..... . baru la aku tau kebenaran dia.... ni aku nak citer sket pasal fenomena hempap/tindih atau nama medical nyer 'sleep paralysis'.

Sleep paralysis atau dimelayukan 'lumpuh waktu tidur'...adalah condition yang terdiri daripada of course la paralysis (lumpuh) yang temporary (sementara). . ... temporary paralysis ni selalu berlaku bila time2 nak tido (hypnagogic paralysis) atau baru2 bangun dari tido (hypnopompic paralysis)

Ok, normal badan manusia bila tido, bila masuk stage tidur yang nyenyak atau REM (rapid eye movement.... .waktu nyenyak ni, bijik mata kiter gerak2) stage.....otak akan bagitau badan kita suruh rehat...so, badan kite kira macam switch off kejap....REM atonia (tader muscle tone)......

Ok, otak kiter pun ader switch off button.....dipanggi reticular activating system RAS.......bila otak dah switch off badan, dia pun auto switch off RAS ni...so tinggal automatic function (degupan jantung, bernafas etc.) jer yang on....kirenyer screensaver laaa or hibernate... so,, bila kita bangun, RAS switched on balik......kita sedar fully awake state....tapi kadang2, electrical signal tak diactivate kan oleh otak suh switch on balik badan kiter.... maka masa tu laa badan kita lumpuh seketika... before otak activate balik....mmg menakutkan tapi benar.... tapi paralysis tu tak semestinyer complete atau full..kadang2 partial atau sebahagian jer...tu ader yang boleh gerakkan ibu jari, tp badan lain lumpuh etc.....

Satu lagi, sleep paralysis ni selalu jugak datang skali dengan hallucinations( halusinasi la) either dalam bentuk auditory (dengar bunyi pelik2), visual (nampak mender bukan2) atau tactile (deria sentuhan, terasa mender sentuh/hempap dll..)

Sebab2 atau mender2 yang boleh mentrigger sleep paralysis:

1. tidor dalam posisi terlentang terlalu lama
2. jadual tidur yang tak tentu arah (irregular sleep clock)
3. sleep/rest deprivation (tak cukup tidor la ni...penat sgt)
4. stress yang byk kat otak...masalah keluarga, kewangan bla2
5. pertukaran gaya hidup secara tiba2 ( macam biasa dok rumah jer, tetiba esok gi panjat gunung, kayuh beskal....heheh extreme sgt contoh aku ni)
6. orang yang ader penyakit narcolepsy

So jangan lagi kata kena hempap ngan hantu... Korang lagi hantu sebenornye.. .......tapi kalau korang yang terutamanaya kaum wanita tu kalau celik jer mata tiba2 kena tindih dek laki (suami) jangan la korang baca ayat Kursi tu..nanti tebakar lak laki..bacalah Alhamdulillah!!! keh keh keh

Mengenal Dara Melalui Raut Wajah

7 Ways to Slash Stress

Chronic stress seems to be our national disease, especially these days. Millions suffer from symptoms of stress: nervous tension, restless sleep, difficulty focusing and remembering, irritability, and health complications. Generally speaking, stress speeds up aging. Learn the ways to manage stress, and you will look and feel younger.

1. Start your day with meditation
Spend time every day in meditative relaxation, with calming music if you desire. Start with five minutes and work your way to 15 or 20 minutes each day. Meditation is your number one way to reduce the output of stress hormones and avoid adrenal exhaustion, serious threats to your health.

Try this Stress Release Meditation: Breathe consciously, relax, and with each exhale focus on relaxing each area of your body in sequence, starting from the top of your head and moving all the way down to your toes.

2. Manage your mood with diet and herbs
Chinese Medicine considers the liver to be the center of your emotions. To allay stress and balance your emotions, keep your liver healthy and happy:

• Every day, eat lots of green leafy vegetables, barley grass, seaweed - anything high in chlorophyll - to keep the liver in good health.

• Take 500 mg dandelion daily for a month or longer to cleanse the liver and help release built-up anger.

• Take 400 mg white peony root daily for 1 to 3 months to soothe the liver and balance your mood.

• Schisandra berry protects the liver from chemicals and calms the spirit. For emotional anxiety, take 200 mg daily for a month.

Take these herbs anytime during the day and before bed in tea or capsule form. All the herbs are available from health food stores and Eastern medicine practitioners. Many of my patients have had remarkable results with Calm-Fort Elixir, an all-natural formulation of herbs to calm your spirit. For more information.

3. Suppress stress with positive thinking
Instead of letting your thoughts run wild with anxiety, say affirmations to yourself, such as "I can handle the tasks I have ahead of me. I enjoy my responsibilities and fulfill them well." In fact, repeating positive affirmations can actually suppress the cortisol that the adrenal gland releases in times of stress - leaving you peaceful and calm.

4. Get stress out of your head and on paper
Writing in a journal every day can help you release thoughts and emotions that are causing you stress. Write from the position of an observer, recording your thoughts without any judgments. Just write it down so that you can see clearly what is going on inside. The next step is to identify the source of any anger or stress so you can begin to make changes. Looking into your thoughts give you the opportunity to gain insight into your feelings and reflect the underlying issues.

5. Unblock tension with exercise

The constant pressures of your job and family can lead to chronically elevated levels of the stress hormone cortisol, which is a direct cause of muscle and joint pain. Clenched jaw? Lump in your throat? Chronic back and neck pain? These can all be manifestations of stress in your body. Release physical tension and clear these emotional blockages by using massage therapy, exercise, yoga, tai chi, or qi gong to get the circuits moving.

6. A Retreat to Avoid Burnout
Overloading your brain is a recipe for stress and health problems. Information overload is particularly harmful at midlife because we have less tolerance for stress, which can contribute to high blood pressure and heart disease. Press the "reset" button on yourself. Give yourself a retreat from the stresses of modern life. Take one day out of the seven-day week to minimize "screen" time. Don't watch TV, don't check email, and don't look at the news - it will be there tomorrow, and after a day of rest, you will be refreshed and ready to look at them.

7. Perspective from the Natural World
Use nature to reduce stress. Go outside, hike in the woods, walk on the beach, anything that puts you in contact with the natural world. It is difficult to feel stressed when you are surrounded by nature's abundance of vitality and wonder.

May you live long, live strong, and live happy!

What is Melamine (Poisoned Milk) ?

1. What really is poisoned milk?

It is the milk powder mixed with "MELAMINE"

What is Melamine use for? It is an industrial chemical use in the production of melawares.

It is also used in home decoration.
"US resistant board"

Do you understand? Melamine is use in industrial production, it cannot be eaten!!!

2. Why is Melamine added in milk powder?

The most important nutrien in milk is protein. And Melamine has the same protein that contains "NITROGEN".

Adding Melamine in milk reduces milk content and it is cheaper then milk so it lowers capitalization. It can give the business man more profit!!.

Below is Melamine, doesn't it look like milk?
It doesn't have any smell, so it cannot be detected.

3. When was it discovered?

year 2007 US cats and dogs died suddenly, they found that pet food from China contains Melamine.

Starting 2008, in China, an abnormal increase in infant cases of kidney stones.

August 2008 China Sanlu Milk Powder tested with Melamine.

Sept 2008 New Zealand gov't ask China to check this problem.
Sept 21, 2008 Lots of food products in Taiwan tested with Melamine.

4. What happened when Melamine is digested?

Melamine remains inside the kidney. It forms into stones blocking the tubes. Pain will be eminent and person cannot urinate.Kidney will then swell.

Although surgery can remove the stones, but it will cause irreversible kidney damage. It can lead to loss of kidney function and will require kidney dialysis or lead to death because of uremia.

What is dialysis? In fact, it should be called "blood washing". It is filtering all of the body's blood into the machine and then go back to the body.

The whole process takes 4 hours and it is necessary to dialysis once for every 3 days for the rest of your life.

Here is a dialysis centre.

Large dialysis centre

a small hole is required in the arm to insert the sub-dialysis catheter.

Why is it more serious in babies? Because the kidney is very small and they drink a lot of milk powder.

Here is baby undergoing dialysis.

China currently has 13,000 infants hopitalized.

It does not matter how much a human being took Melamine. The important points is "It cannot be EATEN".

5. What are the foods to be avoided?

Foods that contain dairy products should be avoided.

Remember: Foods with creamer or milk should be avoided.

6. Which companies are affected?

Hereunder are the companies affected with Melamine

7. What do we do next?

Avoid the above foods for at least six months.

If you have snack bar, restaurant or coffee shops.
Stop selling dairy products for the meantime.

If you have infants at home, change to mother's milk or find other substitute.

Finally, share this information with friends so they will understand the risk of milk poisoning.

Are You Drinking Water from a Plastic Bottle?

Do you Know the risks?
Ronald Grisanti D.C., D.A.B.C.O., M.S.

The wealth of medical research has revealed a chemical used to make hard, clear Plastic called bisphenol A (BPA), such as those found in baby bottles, food-storage Containers and the sides of soda cans , Has reached epidemic proportions in America.

Each year, more than 6 billion Tons of BPA is used to make Plastic. The problem occurs when plastic is heated causing the chemical Bonds that BPA form unravel contaminating water or food will be held there
In addition, tossing plastic or explanation in acidic foods may cause

BPA to leach the food.

Plastic Industry in State of Denial

And while the plastic industry fails to see the need for alarm about the health effects of this chemical, researchers without Ties industry beg to differ.

Research Findings

Scientist study BPA was found that BPA imitates the sex hormone estradiol (estrogen). It is well accepted that even a small amount of estrogen can induce profound changes in the body. It will raise a red flag and caused tension in the scientific community that even the lowest levels of BPA will have a negative effect on one's health.
There is growing evidence (in mice and rats) that low doses of

BPA may cause:

Hyperactivity
Early puberty
Increased fat formation
Abnormal behavior
Disrupted reproductive cycles
Structural damage to the brain

Importance of having Breakfast

Breakfast can help prevent strokes, heart attack and sudden death. Advice on not to skip breakfast!

Healthy Living

For those who always skip breakfast, you should stop that habit now! You've heard many times that "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day." Now, recent research confirms that one of the worst practices you can develop may be avoiding breakfast.

Why?

Because the frequency of heart attack, sudden death, and stroke peaks between 6: 00a.m. and noon, with the highest incidence being between 8: 00a.m. and 10:00a.m.What mechanism within the body could account for this significant jump in sudden death in the early morning hours?

We may have an Answer

Platelet, tiny elements in the blood that keep us from bleeding to Death if we get a cut, can clump together inside our arteries due to cholesterol or laque buildup in the artery lining. It is in the morning hours that platelets become the most activated and tend to form these internal blood clots at the greatest frequency.

However, eating even a very light breakfast prevents the morning platelet activation that is associated with heart attacks and strokes. Studies performed at Memorial University in St. Johns, Newfoundland found that eating a light, very low-fat breakfast was critical in modifying the morning platelet activation. Subjects in the study consumed either low-fat or fat-free yogurt, orange juice, fruit, and a source of protein coming from yogurt or fat-free milk. So if you skip breakfast, it's important that you change this practice immediately in light of this research. Develop a simple plan to eat cereal, such as oatmeal or Bran Flakes, along with six ounces of grape juice or orange juice, and perhaps a piece of fruit. This simple plan will keep your platelets from sticking together, keep blood clots from forming, and perhaps head off a potential Heart Attack or stroke. So never ever skip breakfast.

Disclaimer: Some Bad Things That Are Good For You

Anger:
If you’re one of those people who tends to bottle things up, only to explode … don’t hold it in so long. Studies show that bursts of anger here and there are good for the health, and can be an even more effective coping mechanism than becoming afraid, irritated or disgusted. Anger, like the consumables in this list, however, is best in moderation: stay angry for long periods of time and you’ll be plagued with a host of health issues, like blood pressure, sleep disorders and lung
damage.

Coffee: Java is one of the most debated substances around. Is it good for you? Is it bad for you? Both? The consensus, now anyways, seems to favor those who enjoy their morning jolt-unrelated studies claim coffee is a major source of antioxidants in our diet and can help lower your risk of diabetes. Something in the beans is also thought to ease the onset of cirrhosis of the liver and pancreatitis, good news for those who like to party hard all night before their morning caffeine boost.

LSD:
We’re definitely not in the business of advocating drug use. But check out this interesting science: In heavy drinkers, small doses of LSD have been thought to help bypass the rock-bottom stage of alcoholism and prevent relapses. These studies-some decades old-were done in closely monitored, clinical settings; many patients haven’t had a drink in the many years since. It’s an interesting finding that needs a lot more investigation, and not a remedy that should ever be tried at home. Meantime, and this may come as no surprise, recent study of 36 volunteers who took an LSD-like drug in a lab setting had them reporting mystical experiences and behavior changes that lasted for weeks.

Sunlight:
Exposure to the sun’s rays is necessary to survive, but can also kill you in gross, cancerous quantities. Asthmatics, at least, could benefit from measured doses of ultraviolet rays, according to scientists. Sunlight suppressed the immune reactions that cause asthma in some lab studies with mice and could be used to treat humans afflicted with the disease in the future. And sunlight-even if indirect, such as on a shaded porch-is known to boost the mood. Extra sunlight can help office workers avoid afternoon drowsiness, a recent study found. There’s still no excuse to head outside and bake, however.

Maggots:
They’re creepy, slimy and altogether ooky, but maggots can save your life. These squirmy larvae are science’s newest wonder-cure and were approved in 2003 as the Food & Drug Administration’s only live medical device. Placed on serious wounds, maggots mimic their “wild” lifestyle and munch on bacteria and dead tissue, stimulating healing and helping to prevent infection.

Marijuana:
It’s medicinal, we swear! Marijuana, often associated with memory loss, is ironically now being hyped as a way to stave off the ultimate form of memory loss: Alzheimer’s. Recent studies on mice suggest that anti-inflammatories found in the drug prevent the clumping of brain proteins, one major cause of the disease. So when should you start preventative therapy? We suggest waiting for the human studies to wrap up.

Chocolate:
Chocolate lovers rejoice: study after study lately has touted the magical benefits of the indulgent treat, which is packed with the antioxidant flavonols that prevent certain cancers and keep your arteries from clogging. The most recent news? These powerful chemicals may even increase blood flow to the brain, warding off dementia. Just stick to the highest cocoa content possible-the bars packed with sugar don’t help your health one bit.

Sex: Scientists have found that the benefits of sex go beyond immediate, ahem, gratification and satisfying the goal of procreation. Besides the obvious evolutionary purposes, we can all take pleasure in the news that having sex is an easy way to reduce stress, lower cholesterol and improve circulation throughout the body. As if you needed another excuse.

Mood and the Heart

Mind and Mood can adversely affect the cardiovascular system..

Heart disease can be depressing literally. About 50 percent of hospitalised heart patients have some depressive symptoms, and upto 20 per cent develop major depression, and depression affects heart health.

Patients who are depressed at the time of hospitalisation for heart conditions are two to five times more likely than average to die or to suffer further cardiovascular events such as heart attack, stroke, or severe chest pain in the following year.

Mind and mood can affect the cardiovascular system directly by creating a state of emergency readiness, in which stress harmone levels rise, blood vessels constrict and heartbeat speeds up. If a person is seriously depressed or anxious, the emergency response becomes constant, damaging the blood vessels and making the heart less sensitive to signals telling it to slow down or speed up as the body’s demands change, reports the Harvard Mental Health Letter.

Research suggests that the type of antidepressants called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) may benefit depressed heart patients and possibly reduce their risk for future heart problems.. Cardiac rehabilitation programs that sustain patients’ morale and urge them to take better care of themselves may also help reduce the damage depression done to the heart.

Its hard to determine the precise cause and effect in the relationship between depression and heart disease. Symptoms may be similar, and the damage depression does to the cardiovascular system may trigger further depression. Still, the connection is real.. Cardiologists should ask their patients about stress and depression, and patients should not hesitate to bring up these subjects.

So… take care…keep your Mind & Mood cool always…

The truth about bodybuilding

LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO BECOME SMALL GUY

The main objective of all the Professional Bodybuilding Organizations is to make a profit. How is this done you ask? Easy. The unobtainable goal. The unobtainable goal is a goal that will never be reached and in this case it's massive freaky size. Oh you can make great gains in muscle mass but you will never be Dorian Yates. This is how it works. First you must know that the profit motivated Professional Bodybuilding Organizations run all the major contests (AKA Mr. Universe and Mr. Olympia), own all major bodybuilding publications, has a hand in the monstrous market of supplements, and all the top bodybuilders are contracted (anotherwards they are paid). The bodybuilders are juiced, they use more steroids and more pharmaceuticals than most small hospitals. So, the amateur bodybuilder watches the contests, buys all the magazines, follows all the workouts, spends a small fortune on supplements, and still makes only modest gains. The unassuming bodybuilder thinks something's wrong but believe me there's not. You CAN get big just not freaky like Dorian Yates or Ronnie Coleman. That way Professional Bodybuilding has everyone chasing the unobtainable goal as the Franchise sits on a big pile of cold hard cash.

The first non medical use of steroids was during World War II. Nazi doctors gave steroids to their soldiers in an attempt to make them more aggressive. The Soviet Union then decided to give steroids to their athletes. Once the U.S. learned the Soviet's secret, they also began giving steroids to their athletes, starting in the 1950's (Ribadeneira 3-9).

First time bodybuilding’s world met anabolic steroids in the 1960s (called by some the ‘Dianabol decade’), make anyone, not just those who gifted with good genetic only, could become muscular and cut if they took enough steroids. Those who lacked the natural inclination to muscularity and the personal resolve to use steroids to increase their muscularity fell by the wayside. Those who used steroids were rewarded with major bodybuilding titles and the fame and fortune that went with them. That’s the true fact for today’s bodybuilding world. Those who choose not to use steroids won’t be able to win the overall major bodybuilding titles, and only able to find themselves at winning ‘Most Muscular’ or ‘Best Bodypart’ or ‘Natural Competition’ awards. Let’s face the fact that today, bodybuilding went in a new direction to freakiness, especially when true genetic freak such as Arnold Schwarzenegger appeared on the scene. Today, physique was more regarded by the media than strength. Physique (bodybuilders) got more media coverage than strength (weightlifters).

Today, win at any cost became the battle cry of bodybuilders the world over. “It matters not whether you win or lose, but how you play the game,” became a quaint out-of-time phrase. Being a good loser was no longer fashionable, and playing fairly by the “gentleman’s code of conduct” was passe. Show me a good loser and I’ll show you a loser !!

Today, unlike 1960s, a myriad of new steroids had become readily available – growth hormone, clenbuterol, thyroid, to name a few – that enabled virtually anyone to become ripped. Why do people automatically assume that taking steroids puts someone at risk? Why do they think steroids were invented in the first place? It was to help sick people, especially those suffering from starvation and anemia, wasting diseases such as Crohn's and Colitis, and burn and accident victims. Steroids are great healers of injuries and they help people to recover from surgery and the trauma of accidents. AIDS victims are living greatly enhanced lifestyles, and are being made healthier. As usual, the bodybuilders are far ahead of their time. Bodybuilders have been - and always will be - pioneers in the use of supplements and drugs.

The point of steroids is you must eat huge amounts of protein and train like Arnold Schwarzenegger in the gym. If you don't, you'll receive no results from the steroids, except for maybe a lighter wallet, they are very expensive. The best thing steroids can do is to help those who use them to recover from their workout much faster than a natural bodybuilder.Natural bodybuilders need at least 48 hours of rest before they train again in order to continue increasing their muscle body mass, unlike steroid users who need just a few hours (Klaus). The non-steroid users should not train more than 3-4 times per week, and every time we train we should not spend more than 1 hour in the gym. People that use steroids can easily train 6 times per week, splitting their sessions in the morning and afternoon training, as well as, they are able to spend easily 2 hours in the gym, getting stronger and bigger, week after week (Shepley 5-6). If a natural bodybuilder did that they would end up over-training and not get any results.

Don't limit what you can accomplish. The most often used excuse for achieving inferior results is that one "does not use drugs." Never use being drug free as part of your criteria when deciding if a body part is, you needs work longer/harder, sometimes with less result. Steroids and other drugs definitely give users an advantage. Steroids will overcome your limitation of genetic makeup to enable you to get big, ripped, strong, or all of the above

Natural bodybuilding contests have gotten very little coverage in the major bodybuilding magazines. Every lifter dreams of gracing the pages of the major muscles magazines or even becoming a bodybuilding star. This is difficult for any bodybuilder, but especially tough for naturals because a lot of bodybuilders will do anything to accomplish this dream even if it means taking drugs. Money talk.

The use of steroids is becoming more popular by the day. It's not just with bodybuilding where they are being used. You can find them in practically every sport out there. Bodybuilders are just more open about it and don't hide their heads in the sand like all the other sports do. If you think all the home runs that are being hit today is because pitching is poor, think again.

Too many people training in the gyms today never discover what they are truly capable of achieving naturally. Those who have open minded though, they immediately start using drugs because they firmly know it is impossible to build a truly great physique without them.

Brazilian Health Department Scariest Anti-Smoking Campaign

The Health Minister in Brazil, José Gomes Temporão launched a new anti-smoking campaign on May 28th. This 10 pictures are part of the Brazilian Health Department’s new anti-smoking drive that show the health risk involved with tobacco use. Images include a family at the bedside of a gravely sick man and a man
suffering from im
potence.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), in Brazil 17.2 per cent of 13- to 15-year-olds and 16.2 per cent of adults smoke.

WHO says about 9 per cent of boys and 10 per cent of girls aged 12 to 17 smoked cigarettes. The organisation estimates there are more than one billion smokers worldwide.

It says tobacco use kills 5.4 million people a year - an average of one person every six seconds - and accounts for one in 10 adult deaths worldwide.

10 Tips for BRAIN HEALTH

The Alliance for Aging Research recommends this 10 steps for improving your brain health

1. Eat a Brain-Healthy Diet. A diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids (commonly found in fish), protein, antioxidants, fruits and vegetables and vitamin B; low in trans fats; and with an appropriate level of carbohydrates will help keep your brain healthy.

2. Stay Mentally Active. Activities such as learning a new skill or language, working on crossword puzzles, taking classes, and learning how to dance can help challenge and maintain your mental functioning.

3. Exercise Regularly. Exercising often can increase circulation, improve coordination, and help prevent conditions that increase the risk of dementia such as heart disease, stroke and diabetes.

4. Stay Social. Spending time with friends, volunteering, and traveling can keep your mind active and healthy.

5. Get Plenty of Sleep. Not getting enough sleep can have a negative impact on brain health.

6. Manage Stress. Participating in yoga, spending time with friends, or doing other stress-relieving activities can help preserve your ability to remember and learn.

7. Prevent Brain Injury. Wearing protective head gear and seat belts can help you avoid head injury, which has been associated with an increased risk of dementia.

8. Control Other Health Conditions. Maintaining a healthy weight, exercising, eating a well-balanced and nutritious diet, and controlling stress can help reduce your risk of diseases that affect your brain, including diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure and hypertension.

9. Avoid Unhealthy Habits. Smoking, heavy drinking and use of recreational drugs can increase the risk of dementia and cognitive decline.

10. Consider Your Genes. If your family history puts you at risk for developing dementia, work with your doctor to find ways to maintain your brain health to help avoid or slow the progression of cognitive decline.

The Top 10 Sleeping Myths

Myth 1: Sleep is a time when your body and brain shut down for rest and relaxation

No evidence shows that any major organ (including the brain) or regulatory system in the body shuts down during sleep. Some physiological processes actually become more active while you sleep. For example, secretion of certain hormones is boosted, and activity of the pathways in the brain needed for learning and memory is heightened. To sleep better you must get rid of many sleep myths including this one and only accept the sleeping facts!

Myth 2: Getting just 1 hour less sleep per night than needed will not have any effect on your daytime functioning

This lack of sleep may not make you noticeably sleepy during the day. But even slightly less sleep can affect your ability to think properly and respond quickly, and it can compromise your cardiovascular health and energy balance as well as the ability to fight infections, particularly if lack of sleep continues. If you consistently do not get enough sleep, eventually a sleep debt builds up that will make you excessively tired during the day.

Myth 3: Your body adjusts quickly to different sleep schedules

Your biological clock makes you most alert during the daytime and most drowsy at night. Thus, even if you work the night shift, you will naturally feel sleepy when night time comes. Most people can reset their biological clock, but only by appropriately timed cues—and even then, by 1–2 hours per day at best. Consequently, it can take more than a week to adjust to a dramatically altered sleep/wake cycle, such as you encounter when travelling across several time zones or switching from working the day shift to the night shift.

Myth 4: People need less sleep as they get older

Older people don’t need less sleep, but they often get less sleep or find their sleep less refreshing. That’s because as people age, they spend less time in the deep, restful stages of sleep and are more easily awakened. Older people are also more likely to have insomnia or other medical conditions that disrupt their sleep.

Myth 5: Extra sleep at night can cure you of problems with excessive daytime fatigue

Not only is the quantity of sleep important but also the quality of sleep. Some people sleep 8 or 9 hours a night but don’t feel well rested when they wake up because the quality of their sleep is poor. A number of sleep disorders and other medical conditions affect the quality of sleep. Sleeping more won’t alleviate the daytime sleepiness these disorders or conditions cause. However, many of these disorders or conditions can be treated effectively with changes in behaviour or with medical therapies.

Myth 6: You can make up for lost sleep during the week by sleeping more on the weekends

Although this sleeping pattern will help relieve part of a sleep debt, it will not completely make up for the lack of sleep. This pattern also will not make up for impaired performance during the week because of not sleeping enough. Furthermore, sleeping later on the weekends can affect your biological clock so that it is much harder to go to sleep at the right time on Sunday nights and get up early on Monday mornings. To sleep better you really should get these sleep myths out of the way.

Myth 7: Naps are a waste of time

Although naps do not substitute for a good night’s sleep, they can be restorative and help counter some of the impaired performance that results from not getting enough sleep at night. Naps can actually help you learn how to do certain tasks quicker. But avoid taking naps later than 3 p.m., as late naps can interfere with your ability to fall asleep at night. Also, limit your naps to no longer than 1 hour because longer naps will make it harder to wake up and get back in the swing of things. If you take frequent naps during the day, you may have a sleep disorder that should be treated.

Myth 8: Snoring is a normal part of sleep

Snoring during sleep is common, particularly as a person gets older. Evidence is growing that snoring on a regular basis can make you sleepy during the day and more susceptible to diabetes and heart disease. In addition, some studies link frequent snoring to problem behaviour and poorer school achievement in children. Loud, frequent snoring can also be a sign of sleep apnea, a serious sleep disorder that should be treated.

Myth 9: Children who don’t get enough sleep at night will show signs of sleepiness during the day

Unlike adults, children who don’t get enough sleep at night typically become more active than normal during the day. They also show difficulty paying attention and behaving properly. Consequently, they may be misdiagnosed as having attention deficit hyperactivity.

Myth 10: The main cause of insomnia is worry

Although worry or stress can cause a short bout of insomnia, a persistent inability to fall asleep or stay asleep at night can be caused by a number of other factors. Certain medications and sleep disorders can keep you up at night. Other common causes of insomnia are depression, anxiety disorders, and asthma, arthritis, or other medical conditions with symptoms that become more troublesome at night. Some people who have chronic insomnia also appear to be more revved up than normal, so it is harder for them to fall asleep.

Don't always sleep late

Good rest and sound sleep is very
Important... if u don't sleep well,
The toxic in your body will accumulate..
Affecting your health and your mood...

The main causes of liver damage are:
1.
Sleeping too late and waking up too late are the main cause.
2. Not urinating in the morning.
3. Too much eating.
4. Skipping breakfast.
5. Consuming too much medication.
6. Consuming too much preservatives, additives, food coloring, and artificial sweetener.
7. Consuming unhealthy cooking oil. As much as possible reduce cooking oil use when frying, which includes even the best cooking oils like olive oil. Do not consume fried foods when you are tired, except if the body is very fit.
8. Consuming overly done foods also add to the burden of liver. Veggies should be eaten raw or cooked 3-5 parts. Fried veggies should be finished in one sitting, do not store.

We just have to adopt a good daily lifestyle and eating habits. Maintaining good eating habits and time condition are very important for our body to absorb and get rid of unnecessary chemicals according to 'schedule.'

Because: Evening at 9 - 11pm
: is the time for eliminating unnecessary/ toxic chemicals (de-toxification) from the antibody system (lymph nodes). This time duration should be spent by relaxing or listening to music. If during this time a housewife is still in an unrelaxed state such as washing the dishes or monitoring children doing their homework, this will have a negative impact on her health.

Evening at 11pm - 1am
: The de-toxification process in the liver, and ideally should be done in a deep sleep state. Early morning 1 - 3am : de-toxification process in the gall, also ideally done in a deep sleep state.

Early morning
3 - 5am : de-toxification in the lungs. Therefore there will sometimes be a severe cough for cough sufferers during this time. Since the de-toxification process had reached the respiratory tract, there is no need to take cough medicine so as not to interfere with toxin removal process.
Morning
5 - 7am : de-toxification in the colon, you should empty your bowel.

Morning 7 - 9am
: Absorption of nutrients in the small intestine, you should be having breakfast at this time. Breakfast should be earlier, before 6:30am, for those who are sick. Breakfast before 7:30am is very beneficial to those wanting to stay fit. Those who always skip breakfast, they should change their habits, and it is still better to eat breakfast late until 9 - 10am rather than no meal at all. Sleeping so late and waking up too late will disrupt the process of removing unnecessary chemicals. Aside from that, midnight to 4am is the time when the bone marrow produces blood.

Therefore, have a good sleep and don't sleep late.
